Data Issues Viewer

Quality reports require quality data—let us help with clean-up!

The single biggest barrier to better analytics is HR data that is missing, incomplete, or messy. This is driven by numerous factors, including a lack of expertise in managing HR systems, flawed data entry processes, human errors, and more.

Data Issues Viewer Overview

Our Data Issues Viewer will highlight gaps and erroneous entries in your underlying data source. Find what needs fixing, make updates, and see those reflected in every Knoetic report.

This feature is located in our left-hand menu under Analytics > Data Issues.

Data Issue Categories

Below is an outline of the data issue we capture and highlight for you.

Compensation Information
  1. Missing compensation data. This could impact compensation benchmarks data, and make it harder for you to get a clear sense of an employee raises, bonuses, and more.
To address this issue, update the Compensation data for the relevant employee in your HRIS.
  2. Abnormally high or low compensation. We use the thresholds of $1000/year for low compensation, and $1,000,000 for high compensation to identify extreme outliers, like a salary of $0.
To address this issue, update the Compensation data for the relevant employee in your HRIS.
  3. Missing currency information. Incorrect currency data can lead to employees with excessively high or low salaries. For example, an employee paid 1.2M INR (Indian Rupees) could be recorded as being paid $1.2M (USD), when the correct figure would be ~$16,000 USD.
To address this issue, audit and/or update the Currency field for the relevant employee in your HRIS.

Job and Role Information
  1. Missing employee job title. This prevents us from displaying job title or role change information for affected employees.
To address this issue, update the Job Title field for the relevant employee in your HRIS.
Unreasonable tenure. This is likely caused by records with missing or incorrect ‘start date’ values in your HRIS. We use the threshold of 20 years for identifying unreasonably long tenure.
To address this issue, audit and/or update the Start Date field for the relevant employee in your HRIS.
  2. Employment status logic, such as multiple employment events on the same day. This can lead to errors on employee profile pages, as well as attrition calculations. This issue often arises when an HRIS admin creates an employment status change (such as a termination) and then creates a second employment status change (either in error, or to correct a mistake in the first record).
To address this issue, audit and/or update the Employment Status History for the relevant employee in your HRIS.
  3. No manager data. Employees with no data on their current manager in your HRIS. This means the affected employee will not appear on your Org Chart, and it could introduce errors on your spans and layers calculations.
To address this issue, update the Manager field on the relevant employee record in your HRIS.

Attrition Information
  1. Missing termination reason. For example, an employee was terminated because their contract ended (reason = “contract ended”), but that termination reason was not entered in their employee record.
To address this issue, update the Termination Reason field on the relevant employee record in your HRIS.
  2. Missing termination type. Employees with no termination type (e.g. voluntary, involuntary) in your HRIS. For example, an employee was terminated involuntarily, but that termination type was not entered in their employee record in your HRIS.
To address this issue, update the Termination Type field on the relevant employee record in your HRIS.

Demographic Information

In most cases, this data is reported on a voluntary basis (ie employees are not required to report). However, many employers also undertake visual surveys or other measures to comply with EEO reporting requirements

  1. Missing Date of Birth. This prevents us from displaying ages or birthdays for affected employees.
To address this issue, update the Date of Birth field on the relevant employee record in your HRIS.
  2. Missing Ethnicity. This prevents us from filtering or organizing employees by ethnicity.
To address this issue, update the Ethnicity field on the relevant employee record in your HRIS. If you have multiple ethnicity fields or are unsure how to update this information, reach out to our customer success team.
  3. Missing Gender. This prevents us from filtering or organizing employees by gender. To address this issue, update the Gender field in your HRIS.
To address this issue, update the Gender field on the relevant employee record in your HRIS.
